A Case Study on Irene Adler : The Woman who beat Sherlock Holmes

"To Sherlock Holmes she is always the woman. I have seldom heard him mention her under any other name. In his eyes, she eclipses and predominates the whole of her sex."

Arthur Conan Doyle starts his sherlock holmes story " A Scandal in Bohemia" by these words. Irene Adler was one of the most important and well-crafted characters from Sherlock Holmes Novels.

The interesting fact is that she was only appeared in the story "A Scandal in Bohemia". Even when there is a lot of material about Sherlock Holmes, this character has a lot of importance than any other.

There is a lot of "Sherlock Holmes" adapted movies and series. Each one of them always provides great importance to her.

She was the woman who was hard to absorb even for Sherlock. Normally Sherlock deduces a person within minutes, but she was a hard puzzle. That gave always mutual respect.

There was always a doubt about their relationship. The BBC series named "SHERLOCK" gave a very good adaptation to Irene Adler. There was a romance between Sherlock and Irene, which had a deep meaning. Both of them tried to hide the love they have for each other.

Both of them was seduced by each other's talents. For Sherlock, she felt like the one who can keep up his thought process. Which was exceptional.

I am a great fan of the series. It's the best adaptation of the Novel. There is some kind of mysterious music for Irene Adler. The music is mixed with love, lust and also feeling of lost.

Her character makes a crush on every man. It's how she is crafted. I think Doyle wrote the character to question the Masculinity. That's also the success of it.

In Arthur's novels, she is mentioned as an opera singer. But there is some other character mentioning her as a prostitute with wealthy client's. That's how also the SHERLOCK series represents her.

The series goes a little bit more of dense characterisation. There was a scene where Irene beats the greatest Sherlock Holmes.
And she says,

"This is how I want you to remember me. The woman who beat you"

At the end of the real story, Irene leaves Sherlock saying good night after following him up to Baker Street.

Irene got even little more farewell in the series. There we can see them texting each other. She tried to flirt with him. Both of them always kept a distance to maintain losing of their attitudes.

After reading a lot of books and watching a lot of movies she is always staying as the character who is close to my heart. In the end, there is a smile on Sherlock's face when he thinks about her. That shows both the pain and the love.

They had an opportunity to be close but they set each other free. You never get an opportunity to see both of them having a romance, which is a cliche created by society. They were free of dramas.
