Fear of Insults—Psychological Facts Behind It
While we talk, walk, smile or doing anything, we have a fear that somebody's gonna evaluate our acts—mock or insult us.
Mostly there are two kinds of actions people take towards to avoid this fear, one is staying inside the safe zone and the other is to going forward, even when one tries to go forward there will be hard times.
At that moment we will start feeling like the whole world is full of bad people, who just wanted to insult and hurt you. Hate for society will arise from that moment. Some try to hide this fear in the name of being an introvert. As always running away is not a solution, it's temporary.
Recently I've seen one of my old friend trying to create an image of an introvert just because of the fear of being part of a friend circle. He thinks he can't bear that pain of insult.
There were days in my life also, full of loneliness, sadness and depression. As always I was searching for the reason for it. Why it is this painful? I've researched on everywhere I can.
Everything finally ended up in a word ego, we have a personal identity or image we had already set for ourselves. We wanted people to treat in a certain kind of way, we expect a certain image or respect from others. It's normal in every human.
So in this world inside us, we made us some kind of hero, but when we came back to reality there will be moments when people will be interpreting you like something just opposite. They make jokes on your characters which you think as your identity.
In this situation you will start feeling the pain, your mind may start to think that what they are saying is the truth. When people didn't give you the respect you think you deserve there will be more pain. Everyone wants acceptance from others, even most of the introverts. So when insults came we are totally broken.
So how we can get rid of this fear, the solution is also inside this above explanation. We have to remove that ego, the ego that we have a particular identity and we deserve a certain kind of respect and acceptance.
That sounds simple, but it one of the hardest thing to do. Removing all the ego means you are going to some kind of another level of mind. It's what all the monks were trying to do. And it's not just about the ego, there is an answer for all questions of life.
So I don't say to get rid of the ego completely, but we can alter and change it to a certain point. We could remove that heroic image we have given for ourselves, the identities and fake stories we have told ourselves from watching movies and listening to stories. It's the time to get rid of all those.
As much as we leave behind there will be that much freedom from the fear and pain. Simply like the fall from the 2nd floor is less pain full than from the other top floors. Eventually, there will be changes that discomfort won't last as much as the last time.
And finally, if it's the problem with the people you interacting with it's time to stay away from them.
