In The Garden of Words | A Short Fiction
In that empty bookstore, I saw those beautiful eyes searching for me. I promised her that I will be on time, But now again it happened, now it's about an hour passed. My mind's searching for a solid reason to for lie to her. It's always like this I'm full of lies. I'm tired of it. Then after creating a forced smile on my face I walked towards her.
I could see the anger in her bored face. Now she's not taking anything. Usually, she will be blaming me from the next moment she saw me. There's something else she wanted to talk. It's more serious than this. I could see that in cheeks, it' not blushing, it's pale. I waited for her to talk about something, I loved that silence. So I don't want to break it.
I looked around, as usual, the book store doesn't have that many people. We were near the reading area at the end. It's hard to be aloud but it's the place for the nice romantic conversations. The words have some literary quality inside it. It's also the place I've met her for the first time. It's always the books that made people closer to me.
"Where have you been?"
"Don't tell me those of your cliche stories, I'm tired of it". Now she's talking.
" I have to fight with some dragon's along the way, I think it's not a cliche one." I tried to make an innocent smile on my face.
A smile came to her face, but she tries to hide it by some rough look towards me. Then there's again silence.
"What happened to you? I'm sorry...
Really sorry. I will never do this again. Alan asked me to drop him at his college hostel. It's why I was late."
She didn't say anything. But the anger is gone, I could see the cheeks blushing. It was her way of saying that "now we could be normal and talk about some other things."
"So what's the problem. I think you are concerned about something else too."
I knew that something else was going on. After a few seconds, she started talking,
"Father asked me to go abroad to study with my cousin. I don't know what to do".
She's now keenly looking at face to know what I was going say. It' s something I was never expecting, I don't have anything to say.
" Do as you like." Then again I went into silence.
"Don't talk like this. I don't know what to do"
I knew that she was expecting a short speech from me.
"If you have a better reason than me, to stay, then stay."
I don't know where that came from. Maybe it was the regret I always had for leaving her alone at different places. I always ignored her for my friends, but still, she wanted to stay with me. I can't bear this anymore.
Then there was silence for about an hour. When she was ready to leave, I picked some books and gave it to her. Maybe it could make her remember me when she' away.
