Knock on The Door—The Unknown Lady
There was a knock on the door, it was pretty loud. I doubted for a few minutes, there was no one to knock on my door at this midnight. It's been barely a month I've moved to this place.

I walked towards the door with a lot of thoughts passing through my head. I opened the door, there was a face that was red in colour, that red was from the name board of the little shop next to the house.
She looked like a kitten, a small woman covered in her raincoat and her little hairs swinging in the wind. There was a wind and her umbrella started flying out of her control. For this little analysation, I couldn't find anything to remember that face.
"Do I know you?" I asked her.
She was silent and there was a sad look on her face. Even when she didn't look harmful, I wasn't ready to invite her inside. I've got a lot of thoughts passing through my head. There was lightning and that frightened me a little bit, but she was just all silent and looking at me.
"The only bus is tomorrow", she said that. And also there was a look of helplessness in her face. I couldn't be rough any more. The rain became more strong and now the drops are splashing to my face.
"Come Inside", I gave way for her to enter. She got inside and the next moment I took the umbrella from her hand and took that into a small room near the kitchen and placed it in a cardboard box. I don't want the floor to get wet.
When I returned she was still standing there on the hall having no idea of what to do.
"Sit, what are you looking for?"
She took the raincoat off and stood there with a doubt of where to place it. Then I went forward and took that back to the same old box. This time she was sitting on the sofa when I came back.
She was wearing some kind of brown shirt. In this coldness, I knew that it wasn't gonna help her anyway. There was a bag in her hand, which she held close to her. As she was silent and wasn't ready to ask anything. I offered her a hoodie, the best one I had.
"thanks", that's the second time she is talking—I was counting it. I looked at the clock, it was about to reach 1 PM in the night.
"Do you need anything else?", I knew that she wasn't gonna answer that question. A place to stay that was all she wanted. I had no intention to sleep, not just because she was in. Also because these nights are the one's I really love. Which helps in doing my writing and other entertainments like watching TV.
I still couldn't figure out this lady, She was ready to not make even a little sound and sit there for years. I knew that standing there and looking at her gonna make anything change. I go to the kitchen with the intention of making coffee.
When the water was boiling, I made a peek into the hall. Still the same. Coffee was ready, I poured that to two cups and brought them both to the hall. I can see some light in her eyes, that was the last I'm gonna see in her face. I knew that. I put that on the side table in front of the sofa.
I took a seat on the sofa adjacent to her's directing towards the tv.
"It's for you". she took the coffee in the next minute. The coffee made the night more beautiful. Still could hear the sounds of the rain.
"Tell me when you are planning to sleep, I could arrange the bed in the other room". I didn't know what else to say
"I don't want to sleep, the bus is too early" she replied.
"Then we could wait here for the sun to came back." I took the remote and turned on the TV while I was saying that. I passed through the channels. I couldn't find anything interesting. Then there is Cinema Paradiso on a movie channel. I put the remote on the table.
"What are you doing in this town?" I enquired.
It took some time for her to reply.
"I got the information that my father was here, my mother and sister are waiting for me at home." I could see tears coming from her eyes. That was of complete helplessness.
I didn't intend to ask her more question, I knew that it would make her sadder. I tried to give my attention to the movie. It was about the life of little Salvatore and the theatre operator Alfredo.
The Ennio Morricone's music started playing and it was been beautiful as ever.

I opened my eyes, I was laying on the sofa, I started to panic and looked at the sofa she was sitting. She isn't there, looked at the clock—it's 8 AM in the morning. I started checking on the cardboard box for her umbrella and coat. Those weren't also there. I took a good look around the house, nothing was missing. I opened the door and went outside of the house.
The sun is back with a peculiar light, that made me feel like everything happened was a dream. I went back to living my boring life. Once I got a letter, it just said: "Thank You". From the silence in those words, I knew who it was.
After that lot of rains came, when the thunder rumbles in the midnight, I still hope for a knock on the door.
